The snail casually picked up by the man on the river bank transformed into a maiden eager to keep house. After this secret is discovered, the companions experienced the joys and sorrows of union and separation. This is the familiar folklore of the Snail Maiden. While generally retaining the dominant theme of the Snail Nymph, a large number of variations of the tale have been produced since the original inception of the text. Embellishments and omissions to the main narrative reflect changes in social structures and ideologies contingent to different historical periods. These apocryphal themes range from concerns over voyeurism, plunder, revenge, retribution, taboos between humans and non-humans, and nature and the othering of women... The artist invites the public to rewrite the
story of the Snail Nymph, and, in turn, develop new spatial imaginations.
