Tan Jing (b. 1992, Shenzhen, China) lives and works in Jingdezhen and Shenzhen.

Tan works across sculpture, installation, and moving images, often engaging scent and olfactory matter as central materials. Her practice investigates how substances carry contested histories and affective intensities, attending to suppressed vulnerabilities and the relational dynamics of collective experience shaped by environment and history. Through speculative formulations and embodied experimentation, her installations craft immersive, semi-fictional worlds where materials and space activate silenced narratives and evoke perception across bodies. Drawing on personal memoirs, folklore, mythology, and fantastical elements, her work foregrounds the interplay of desire, emotion, and materiality, inviting reflection on both personal and shared landscapes.

Tan’s work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including Sprueth Magers (Berlin, 2024), Rockbund Art Museum (Shanghai, 2023), Para Site (HongKong, 2021), HB Station (Guangzhou, 2021), Guangdong Times Museum (Guangzhou, 2020), and Spielzeug Welten Museum (Basel, 2018).

In 2025, she will be an artist-in-residence at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA).
