Tan Jing
(b. 1992, Shenzhen, China) lives and works in Jingdezhen and Shenzhen.
Tan often experiments with unconventional materials across sculpture, installation, and moving images. She is particularly attentive to the suppressed vulnerabilities within individuals and the connections between collective experiences shaped by specific environments and historical contexts, examining the intrinsic relationship between emotions, desires, and materiality. Her installations often weave together olfactory materials, textiles, glass, and biological substances to explore their affective potential within the semi-fictional worlds she creates. Drawing on personal memoirs, folklore, mythology and fantastical elements, her work crafts immersive experiences in which materials and space evoke rich, layered narratives.
Tan’s work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including Sprueth Magers (Berlin, 2024), Rockbund Art Museum (Shanghai, 2023), Para Site (HongKong, 2021), HB Station (Guangzhou, 2021), Guangdong Times Museum (Guangzhou, 2020), and Spielzeug Welten Museum (Basel, 2018).
In 2025, she will be an artist-in-residence at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA).
