Site-specific installation
This project is an art installation through which the artist reviews and reimagines personal encounters where women were forced to show their masculine temperament in order to be rewarded in the patriarchal system.
Combined with the artist’s study of the folk legend metamorphic Snail Maiden, the artist rewrote the chapter about snail shell being taken away, and substituted it with personal trauma from childhood. By creating the feeling of clamminess in a shadowy space, the artist endows these machine-cold lifeless devices with sustainable destructive power. The concept of continuity is delicately embodied in the device’s uninterrupted mucus secretion. Through observing the slowness and persistence of unhindered production of mucus, the spectators can perhaps trigger empathy for similar experiences in childhood.
